Polish power plant in Turow environmentally friendly retrofitted

Babcock Noell has successfully completed the modernization of the Turow power station with new flue gas desulfurization systems. Following a good two-year construction period and test operations, the plant has now been handed over to operator PGE.

“As a specialist for flue gas purification systems, we retrofit existing power plants so that they can meet the increasing environmental protection requirements. The required SO2 separation rate of 97.5 percent is surpassed in Turow. We are pleased that, with our technical expertise, we are able to make a contribution to environmental protection in Poland”, says Helmut Welp, Managing Director of Babcock Noell in Würzburg.

PGE, Poland’s largest energy group, has been investing in the environmentally-friendly design and modernization of its power plants for years. In this connection, Babcock Noell won an order at the end of 2013 to retrofit three lignite-fired blocks of the Turow power plant in Bogatynia with state-of-the-art flue gas desulfurization systems. The order has a volume of €120 million.
